Environmental leaders call for legislation after EPA renews bombs’ use

Guardians; the First Gentleman of Colorado, Marlon Reis (a “First Gentleman” is the male equivalent of a “First Lady”); and a coalition of allies called on congressional delegates today to support a total ban on sodium cyanide bombs.

The U.S. EPA renewed the use of sodium cyanide bombs earlier this year, despite the fact that these indiscriminate devices pose a deadly threat to all people and animals that encounter them. Representative Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) have introduced companion bills in the House and Senate to ban the devices; the bills are known as “Canyon’s Law” after an Idaho boy who was poisoned by a cyanide bomb and whose dog was killed by the device.

“In Colorado we value the humane treatment of animals, whether they are in our homes or on our public lands,” stated First Gentleman Marlon Reis.
