Courts never okayed blatantly illegal grazing

January 11, 2018

U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro may have dismissed the charges against rancher Cliven Bundy related to his 2014 Bunkerville standoff, but she did not exonerate him for illegally grazing his cattle on our public lands. We’re calling on Secretary Zinke to round up and remove Bundy’s cattle, ensuring justice for the American public.

In 1998, and again in 2013, a federal judge ordered the Bureau of Land Management to round up Bundy’s cattle, which are illegally roaming 750,000 acres near the Nevada-Arizona line. Much of this land is protected as Gold Butte National Monument and is habitat for the imperiled desert tortoise. According to federal officials, Bundy owes more than $1 million in grazing fees.

It’s time for the BLM to do its job and protect our public lands on behalf of the American people.
