Administration’s new regulations dramatically weaken integral law

August 21, 2019

Guardians and seven other environmental organizations sued the Trump administration today over its new regulations that weaken the Endangered Species Act.

The suit censures the Trump administration for failing to disclose and analyze the harms of these new regulations under the National Environmental Policy Act; inserting new changes into the rules that were never subject to public comment, thereby cutting Americans out of the decision-making process; and violating the language and purpose of the Act. This is only the first set of claims the groups will bring against the administration in what will be a larger legal challenge.

“This administration has a clear pattern of climate change denial and hostility to conservation,” said Guardians’ Taylor Jones. “We’re not going to let it stand. We’ll see them in court.”
