Under Trump, the U.S. Department of the Interior has declared a war on transparency, proposing sweeping rollbacks of our Freedom of Information regulations meant to stymie public oversight and accountability.
With your help, however, we can defend our democracy and our right to know.
The Interior Department’s proposal is truly sinister. Over the holidays and amid a federal government shutdown, the U.S. Department of the Interior proposed a massive overhaul of our Freedom of Information Act regulations.
Worse, it’s calculated to protect the fossil fuel industry, which views transparency as a “burden.” Not surprisingly, the architect of the overhaul is a former advisor to the Koch brothers.
We all have so much to lose here.
WildEarth Guardians is on the frontlines of enforcing transparency within the Interior Department. We’ve filed more Freedom of Information Act requests than any other entity and filed more transparency lawsuits against Interior than any other organization in the nation.
With a President that thrives on secrecy and collusion, we have to be as aggressive as possible in keeping the spotlight on. For our members and the American public, we have to be steadfast.
And stay tuned for more as we mount our defense of government transparency and Americans’ right to know.
