This is a watershed victory for climate, justice, and public lands. You helped us get where we are today, yet we still have a long way to go

We envisioned. We demanded. We organized. And today, we won!

Five years ago, we set forth on an audacious campaign to defend the climate and end the sale of fossil fuels from public lands. Today, true to his word, President Biden followed through with an executive action to halt new oil and gas leasing on public lands and offshore waters.

It’s a monumental step toward permanently keeping dirty fossil fuels in the ground across the United States and hastening a just transition to clean and affordable energy. We applaud President Biden for taking this bold—and absolutely necessary—action for the climate. But the reality is, this victory would not have happened without YOU.

Because of your support for WildEarth Guardians, your willingness to speak out, and your courage to stand up for aggressive climate action, you gave President Biden no choice but to do what’s right for our planet.

Pure and simple, this victory is one of the most significant in the 32-year history of WildEarth Guardians.

For places like the Greater Chaco region of northwest New Mexico, where we’ve worked tirelessly with Tribal and Indigenous allies to confront unchecked fracking, it means new hope for justice and protection of this sacred landscape.

It means frontline communities along the Front Range of Colorado will literally breathe easier and wild places in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and throughout the Great Plains will remain havens for imperiled wildlife like grizzly bears and sage grouse.

We still have our work cut out. The fossil fuel barons and the politicians they fund will no doubt fight to weaken this policy when it hits the ground. But with today’s victory in hand, and with a champion like President Biden in the White House, I’m incredibly hopeful and optimistic.

Let’s celebrate and move forward together more empowered than ever to ensure just and equitable action for the climate and our future! As always, your voice, your actions, and your generous financial support will fuel our success.
