Proposed Changes to County Ordinance Would Weaken Protections
Prohibitions on wells drilled within a half mile of all residences would be rendered virtually meaningless by the proposed ordinance revisions. The proposed revisions would allow wells to be drilled within 200 feet of drinking water wells versus the current restriction to no less than 500 feet. And, the revisions would make oil and gas resources on a piece of property the “dominant estate,” subordinating private land, water, and other public values to industry interests. These are just a few examples of the threats posed by these revisions.
