Sage Grouse Hotspots Left Unprotected
For some states, virtually all of the best remaining sage grouse habitats—with the largest remaining populations—fall within Priority Habitats. Other states have major gaps, where remaining high-density sage grouse populations don’t get the protection of Priority Habitat conservation measures.
These omissions are no accident. States carved out high-quality sage grouse habitats in areas where industrial interests wanted free rein to destroy or fragment sage grouse habitat without abiding by sage grouse conservation measures.
