Colorado Public Lands to be Auctioned For Fracking

In spite of a victory in April, where Trump’s Bureau of Land Management backed down on plans to auction off nearly 30,000 acres of public lands for fracking in Grand County, Colorado, more than 73,000 acres of public lands remain on the auction block.
Among them are lands in North Park, Colorado, home of the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge and the headwaters of the North Platte River. While fracking has already taken a toll on this pristine mountain valley, the Bureau of Land Management’s latest plans would pave the way for a fracking takeover in North Park.

That’s not all, though. The Bureau of Land Management’s plans call for selling public lands in the Yampa River watershed in Routt County, Colorado, as well as public lands in Rio Blanco and Moffat Counties.

Not only do Trump’s plans threaten our public lands, they threaten to further erode our progress in safeguarding the climate and our efforts to transition to clean energy. That’s why last April, WildEarth Guardians appealed the Bureau of Land Management’s plans and called on the agency to abandon its planned giveaway to the fracking industry.
