How to: Press Section

The Press section consists of Press Releases, In the News, and Op-Eds custom post types. The “For the Press” page is an overview showing a few of each of these, and this is a regular page built with Divi.

All three post types share the same list of Categories and Campaigns.

Adding a New Press Release

  • Enter a Title
    • Post title may have lots of words, but edit permalink down to 5 words, no stop words (only nouns and verbs). The permalink should be all lower case, with hyphens between words. For example, How To: Press Section becomes …/how-to-press
  • Make sure extra paragraphs have been removed from your text before you copy and paste into the Visual text editor.
  • Choose a category for the post (on the right sidebar) – a program area
  • Choose at least one Campaign from the list on the right below Categories
    • New campaigns can be added, just make sure to scan the list for the campaign before adding to avoid duplicate or related campaigns.
  • Below the main content area enter the Main Contact in one line – Name, phone, and email
  • Enter the Release date – date it is released for publication – click on the calendar icon to choose the date.
  • Add a Byline – the short synopsis
  • Add any additional contacts – be sure to include organization if outside of Guardians
  • Click Publish
  • Click “Clear Site Cache” hyperlink in the top right your admin window. This will ensure that the most recent post are feeding locations like the home page quickly and correctly.

Adding In the News posts

  • Enter a title
  • Edit the Permalink down to 5 effective keywords, all lower case, hyphens between words
  • Add the News Article URL – the link to the actual article on external news site
  • Add the Publication Name
  • Use the calendar icon to choose the publication date of the article
  • Copy/paste a 35-50 word excerpt from the published article
  • Choose a Category (Program area)
  • Choose a Campaign
  • Publish
  • Click “Clear Site Cache” hyperlink in the top right your admin window

Adding In the Op-Ed posts

  • Enter a title
  • Edit the Permalink down to 5 effective keywords, all lower case, hyphens between words
  • Enter the Author Name
  • Enter the Author’s Title (include Organization after title if outside of Guardians organization)
  • Add the Publication Name
  • Use the calendar icon to choose the publication date of the article
  • Enter the URL to the Op-Ed on the external publication site
  • Copy/paste a 35-50 word excerpt from the published article
  • Choose a Category (Program area)
  • Choose a Campaign
  • Publish
  • Click “Clear Site Cache” hyperlink in the top right your admin window
