Mountain lions are among the most charismatic, magnificent and misunderstood of all the animals who live amongst us — they are also vital to the integrity of our ecosystem. Please join us for an evening of education and advocacy about Nevada’s apex species and a discussion about how to support and help these animals as they face challenges going forward.
Our guest speakers include:
Denise Peterson, Founder and Director, Utah Mountain Lion Conservation, will describe how she tracks mountain lions on foot to obtain her highly entertaining trail camera video clips. She also provides interesting and informative commentary about the biology of the animal and the ways in which mountain lions live and she’ll describe the challenges researchers face in obtaining such striking video coverage of a secretive animals.
Will Stolenzberg, a Reno resident, Stolzenberg was trained as a conservation biologist. He is an accomplished and widely published wildlife journalist and author. His first book, “Where the Wild Things Were,” is a compelling story about how some wildlife species make a vital and disproportionate contribution to the integrity of the ecosystem in which they live. The mountain lion, now known as an apex/keystone species, is such an animal. Its story will be the focus of Will’s presentation.
The evening is hosted by Nevada Wildlife Alliance in association with Mountain Lion Foundation and WildEarthGuardians.
This event is free and appropriate for all ages to attend, but an RSVP is required.
