Powder River Basin coal map – tracking the coal plants powered by the Basin’s coal
Coal Plants Fueled By Powder River Basin Coal
The Powder River Basin of northeast Wyoming and southeast Montana is the largest coal-producing region in the United States. Coal mined in the region fuels 300 coal-fired electric generating units from coast to coast. This map shows the many U.S. coal-fired power plants fueled by Powder River Basin coal mining—a massive and dangerous carbon footprint.
