Rule rolls back protections for rivers, wetlands, endangered species

February 18, 2020

Conservation groups including Rio Grande Waterkeeper filed a formal notice of intent to sue the Trump administration for eliminating longstanding Clean Water Act protections for the nation’s waters.

Trump’s rollbacks allow polluters to pave over wetlands and to dump pesticides, mining waste, and other pollutants directly into unprotected waters. Hundreds of endangered species are also put at greater risk of extinction.

“The dirty water rule fundamentally undermines efforts over the past half-century to protect clean water and restore the integrity of these vital arteries of life,” said Rio Grande Waterkeeper and WildEarth Guardians Rivers Program Director Jen Pelz.
