Mining claims underscore Trump’s alignment with mining industry

For more proof that the Trump administration is in cahoots with the mining industry, one need only look to a new mining claim on our public lands in Utah.

Canadian company Glacier Lake Resource Inc. recently announced its intention to renew mineral extraction on public lands that were formerly part of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah. Mining was prohibited when these lands were inside the monument boundary. Trump shrank the boundary in December 2017.

Ten mining claims have been located and recorded, but so far the company has taken no further steps to develop them. Plaintiff groups, including Guardians, that sued Trump last December over his illegal monument-shrinking orders are watching these developments closely.
