Guardians, allies call on Air Commission to protect public health, transition from oil and gas

A weeklong series of public hearings in Colorado are set to kick off today. Spurred by an ozone problem and the passage of a recent bill, the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission will take public comment at hearings around the state and consider adopting new rules to clamp down on emissions from the fracking industry.

Guardians and allies are billing the events as a Week of Action for Clean Air in Colorado. We plan to attend and organize around the hearings, ensuring new rules are adopted that put Colorado on a path to clean air, a safe climate, and healthy communities.

A “first step” to address the oil and gas industry’s pollution, the rules stand to eliminate loopholes, tighten controls, and ensure greater transparency around companies’ emissions.
