Lawsuit seeks records behind rollback of environmental safeguards

The Trump administration’s track record of transparency is so poor that Guardians has headed to court to get information that should be readily available to the public.

On December 5, we filed suit over the administration’s refusal to provide records related to the Interior Department’s attempts to roll back environmental reviews (Secretarial Order 3355.) These reviews are legally required under federal law; without them, miners, drillers, and developers have easy access to our public lands and resources.

Interior agencies oversee all offshore and onshore oil and gas drilling and coal mining. They include the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Surface Mining, and others. Collectively, these agencies control vast tracts of our public lands; parks; rivers; and wildlife.
