Hannah Smay joined WildEarth Guardians in 2023 as the Communications Manager. She grew up in Boise, Idaho and earned a BA from Lewis and Clark College before completing an MS in Environmental Humanities from the University of Utah. She is currently based in Ketchum, Idaho on Shoshone and Bannock traditional lands.

Hannah brings a wealth of experience in communications, community engagement, and advocacy across conservation, climate, and energy issues. Prior to joining Guardians, Hannah worked for Idaho Conservation League on salmon restoration, clean water, and public lands campaigns and for the Nuclear Information and Resource Service as a digital organizer. As Communications Manager, Hannah plays a vital role in expanding Guardian’s reach and amplifying Guardian’s conservation programs through storytelling, media, and creative communications strategies.

Outside of work, Hannah enjoys skiing, whitewater kayaking, and hiking in the beautiful landscapes of Idaho and the west.
